Kevin Murphy wins David Roberts award

The David Roberts Memorial Plate is awarded annually to a promising up and coming young traditional musician from Scotland. This year the award will go to accordionist Kevin Murphy from Kirkintilloch. Kevin was an under 12 All Ireland Champion and in 2007 was voted the Glasgow Young Traditional Musician of the Year.

Aileen Campbell MSP presented the award to Kevin at the BBC Young Tradition Musician of the Year Semi Finals held in Coulter hall on Saturday 4th October. Accompanied by David Foley he opened the second half of the evenings entertainment at Coulter with a short performance of his talents.
Kevin a fantastic box player as well as being great on many other instruments. He has a stellar career ahead of him.
The award is in memory of David Roberts, a great supporter of traditional music, who died suddenly in 2005.
