Following the excellent Dougie Maclean concert last month, Clydesdale Folk Club are once again returning to the Corn Exchange to welcome their guests, The Halton Quartet.

Comprising the collective talents within two of Scotland’s most innovative and captivating duos, The Halton Quartet may be more familiar to audiences as Angus Lyon and Ruaridh Campbell, and Wingin’ It.

Angus Lyon who is a well known local accordionist  and Ruaridh Campbell have performed at the club in the past and are widely accepted as one of Scotland’s most creative fiddle and accordion duos, racking up numerous accolades for their 2006 release 18 Months Later. Although now concentrating their efforts on the Halton Quartet, so recognised are the duo that, in January 2010, they appeared at Celtic Connections, in Glasgow, alongside the ten-times Grammy award winner and world-renowned vocalist, Bobby McFerrin (Don’t Worry, Be Happy).

Adam Bulley and Chas Mackenzie formed Wingin’ It in 2004, and have since been gaining credits for their dextrous, almost lyrical arrangements on mandolin and guitars. A Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections has cemented this recognition.

The four met on board the MV Halton during the 2007 Orkney Folk Festival and have since gone on to make music which is both rich in tradition and boldly forward-looking, with arrangements that expand and develop melodic ideas with imagination, subtlety and brio. Influenced by Argentinean tango master Astor Piazzolla, The European classical school, New York Jazz and Scottish tune forms – this is music with genuine heart and soul.

The support act for the evening is the supremely talented Heather Young from Stonehouse. Despite having just turned 17, Heather has already on two occasions reached the finals of Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Awards. She was also well received locally at last month’s  Gentle Giant Festival in Forth  and has since performed in the main concert at the Arran Folk Festival
